The Feed Tube is made with a 2-inch diameter opening. The #12 size grinder is specially designed with an opening of 2 ¾ inches, this extra space allows the meat to move through the grinder more efficiently. Smaller holes often cause meat to clog and get stuck in the machine if it’s moving too quickly. The wider opening makes it easier for the ground meat to fall through and be pushed out.
The grinding plates include fine, medium and coarse. Each plate measures 2 5/8 inches in diameter. The course grinding plate is ideal for chili or other types of stew meat. The mid-range grinding plate includes ¼ inch holes for easy hamburger meat prep. While the fine grinding plate includes a hole that measures 5/32 inches in diameter, the perfect size for sausages.
There are three cutting blades, one cutting blade is to be used with each of the grinding plates. The manufacturer recommends using the same cutting blade and grinding plate together each time. This allows for equal wear, and ultimately cleaner cuts over time. The flat side of the cutting blade should always be facing out.
